Niacin (vitamin B3)
Niacin, which is a B vitamin, is needed to break down fat, carbohydrates and protein. The vitamin helps keep the nervous system functioning and the skin healthy. Niacin exists in two forms: nicotinic acid and nicotinamide. Both forms are found naturally in food.
How do we get niacin?
The highest levels are found in chicken, fish and meat, but peanuts, hard bread and cereals also contain slightly higher levels of niacin. There are also products fortified with niacin, such as some breakfast cereals.
